Utopia’s come from the size options on its own store’s listings. The bath sheet row is the tricky one. Brooklinen’s is the widest at 40 inches but 65 inches long, while Boll & Branch, Utopia and Hawmam all list 70-inch lengths at 35 or 36 inches wide. If length matters most to you, check the second number; if width matters most, check the first.

Bath towel or bath sheet

Brooklinen’s guidance is that “a standard Bath Towel works for most people” and that a bath sheet “is larger… and better if you want full wrap-around coverage.” Boll & Branch describes its bath sheets as “generously oversized, offering extra coverage.” The tradeoff is space: a bath sheet takes more room on a bar, on a shelf and in the washer than a bath towel from the same line.

Compare size and weight together

Makers also list towel weight in GSM (grams per square meter). Boll & Branch explains that “lower GSM towels are lighter, breathable, and dry more quickly. Higher GSM towels are thicker and more absorbent.” Its Plush towels are 700 GSM, and Utopia’s 27 x 54 bath towels and 35 x 70 bath sheets are listed at 600 GSM. If towels dry slowly in your bathroom, weigh that tradeoff along with the size.

Check what a “set” contains

Sets are counted by piece, not by size. Utopia’s 8-piece set, for example, is “2 bath towels, 2 hand towels, and 4 washcloths.” Read the piece list before comparing sets, and confirm each piece’s measurement on the listing.
