Pick by the maker’s rating for the exact model, then check the basket. Household ratings come from each maker, so the numbers below are taken from each maker’s own product pages and size guide. They disagree, sometimes within one brand.

What makers say, by household

Household What makers rate for it
1 person COSORI Lite 2.1-quart: “a perfect fit for a single person”
1 to 2 people COSORI Lite 2.1-quart; COSORI’s guide says a 5-quart basket is plenty for one or two
2 to 3 people COSORI size guide: 6.0- to 6.5-quart single basket
3 to 5 people COSORI product pages: Pro LE 5-quart, TurboBlaze 6-quart, Iconic 6.5-quart
3 to 5 people COSORI size guide: 6.5-quart single basket or 9-quart dual basket
Up to 6 people Ninja DoubleStack SL201, 8 quarts in two baskets
5 or more people COSORI size guide: 9-quart dual basket
6 to 8 people Ninja DualZone DZ901, 10 quarts in two baskets

Two conflicts are worth knowing before you buy. COSORI’s product page rates the 5-quart Pro LE for 3 to 5 people, while COSORI’s size guide says a 5-quart basket “starts to feel small” for a family of four or more. COSORI’s guide also puts 6.0 to 6.5 quarts at 2 to 3 people, while its Iconic 6.5-quart and TurboBlaze 6-quart product pages say 3 to 5. When the pages differ, the more conservative figure is the safer one to plan around.

Current models and their published ratings

Model Capacity Maker’s household rating Maker’s batch example Weight

COSORI Pro LE 5.0-Quart 5 qt 3 to 5 people Whole 4-lb chicken; up to 1.5 lb fries 10 lb
Ninja Air Fryer Pro AF141 5 qt Not published Up to 4 lb fries or 5 lb wings 10.67 lb
COSORI TurboBlaze 6.0-Quart 6 qt 3 to 5 people Not published 13.2 lb
COSORI Iconic 6.5-Quart 6.5 qt 3 to 5 people Not published 14.1 lb
Ninja Air Fryer Pro XL AF181 6.5 qt Not published Up to 5 lb fries or 9 lb wings 12.57 lb
Ninja DoubleStack SL201 8 qt (two 4-qt baskets) Up to 6 people 4 lb wings at once 23.15 lb
COSORI 9.0-Quart Dual Basket 9 qt (two 4.5-qt baskets) 3 to 5 people 15 wings in one basket 19.2 lb
Ninja DualZone DZ901 10 qt (two 5-qt baskets) 6 to 8 people Up to 4 lb fries or wings 19.4 lb

Look at the 5-quart rows. Ninja says its 5-quart AF141 fits up to 4 pounds of fries; COSORI says its 5-quart Pro LE fits up to 1.5 pounds. Makers don’t measure batch sizes the same way, so compare them within a brand rather than across brands.

How to choose

Count the people you cook for at one time

Size for a normal dinner, not for the largest meal of the year. Then read the household rating on the exact model’s product page. If the maker publishes a range, plan around the low end when you cook full meals in the air fryer rather than one side dish.

Compare basket width, not only quarts

COSORI’s size guide warns that “a deep 8-quart basket may offer less usable cooking surface area than a wide 6.5-quart model,” and that a wide basket “is generally more useful for family or large group cooking than a deep one.” COSORI’s guide adds that food stacked or packed too tightly cooks unevenly, because hot air can’t circulate around each piece. If a listing gives basket dimensions, compare those alongside the quart figure.

Decide between one basket and two

A two-basket model splits its capacity. The Ninja DZ901 is two 5-quart baskets, the COSORI 9.0-Quart Dual Basket is two 4.5-quart baskets, and the Ninja SL201 is two stacked 4-quart baskets. The payoff is cooking a main and a side at once: Ninja’s Smart Finish and COSORI’s Sync Finish time both baskets to finish together. The cost is that a whole chicken or a large tray of food has to fit in one basket on its own, so check the per-basket figure for those jobs.

Measure the counter and the cabinet

Bigger models take more space and are heavier to move. COSORI lists the Lite 2.1-Quart at 10.1 x 8.3 x 10.5 inches including the handle, against 17.3 x 15.4 x 11.9 inches for its 9.0-Quart Dual Basket. Ninja lists the DZ901 at 16.93 x 14.57 x 12.6 inches and says the stacked SL201 gives “the power and capacity of 2 air fryers in the footprint of 1.” If the air fryer will live in a cabinet or on a cart between uses, weight matters as much as footprint; see rolling cart vs fixed shelving for small appliances .

FAQ

Is a 5-quart air fryer big enough for a family of four?

It depends on the model and on which maker page you read. COSORI rates its 5-quart Pro LE for 3 to 5 people, but COSORI’s own size guide says a 5-quart basket starts to feel small for a family of four or more and points 3 to 5 people toward a 6.5-quart single basket or a 9-quart dual basket.

Is a 10-quart dual-basket air fryer twice as big as a 5-quart one?

In total capacity, yes, but it is split. The Ninja DualZone DZ901 is two 5-quart baskets, so the largest single item still has to fit one 5-quart basket.

What size air fryer is right for one person?

COSORI describes its 2.1-quart Lite as “a perfect fit for a single person” and “generally suitable for one or two people.”
